For years, SoundCloud has progressively irked me by adding tiers-of-service, "locked access to" proprietary features, and taking upon itself to become a digital music distributor and ancillary player in the New Music Biz; such that only record labels with operating budgets for promotion and such might be prominently pushed and served. I hadn't minded being limited to "only" two hours' worth of music, since that's more than most people are going to want to endure, anyway, but some of what should seem like free-level features were crippled in order to induce one to "go pro" and throw-away money that one weren't even earning from sales of one's music.
Now? Essentially, unless one's music be uploaded to SoundCloud by a "real" record label, one cannot opt-out of having one's music, at least eventually, scanned by an AI bot for machine-learning purposes – tantamount to copyright infringement, despite that no copyright laws govern plagiarism by AI. When it comes to the point of SoundCloud's using the term "human artists" in language, regarding its use of AI, in its revised ToS – of which many users, including myself, apparently had not been informed – this all adds-up to dodgy and duplicitous practices by Tech Bros – at which I can't act surprised, anymore.
So, no more music on either of my SoundCloud accounts. Just a matter of principle. - and yet another case of devoting a lot of time and attention to an online platform, just to have it undermined by some disagreeable change in ToS (if not complete deletion of content without forewarning or notification).
